TrackIR 5 is the latest version of this head tracking software by NaturalPoint.

TrackIR uses infra-red light to track all six degrees of head movements, it does this using a small camera device that sits on top of your display screen and connects via USB. It works in two ways depending on which kit you purchase.

Trackclip 5:

This version comes with a light-weight but strong metal frame that clips to the peak of a hat (hat supplied as extra). Small reflectors on the frame reflect back light emitted by the camera unit. The clip will attach to any hat with a peak, there are no wires to the hat.

Trackclip 5-Pro

This option has a powered device that attaches to the side of headphones, this connects by USB cable to the camera. a movable arm has three infra-red lights that are monitored by the camera.

Both options use the same camera device, and are fully interchangeable. There is an option to buy a pro kit which includes both. Additional items and replacement clips are available, so you can try the cheaper option first and buy the powered version later if you wish.

The required software does not come with the unit, but is free to download.

When the software is loaded before the game, TrackIR monitors all fields of head movement and replaces the need to use keys or controllers to look left/right/up/down. So you are able to more naturally look around you without having to use  buttons, leaving hands free to concentrate on steering and operating other controls.
